Virginians for Affordable Education

IMAGINE A VIRGINIA where higher education learners are forced to pay more for less: lower standards, fewer options, limited opportunities, and reduced student services.

a proven formula, under direct threat

The great strength of higher education in Virginia is the decentralized, school-led system that allows our universities the autonomy and flexibility to control costs, attract star faculty, launch specialized research centers, and win students from around the nation. Mandatory collective bargaining is a direct threat to that proven formula.

Collective bargaining would create radical, tuition-raising cost increases for institutions at a time when affordability and accessibility should be our top priority.

Virginia’s higher education ecosystem thrives because universities have the autonomy and flexibility to respond to ever-changing needs of the market and the student body. Mandated collective bargaining on campuses across the Commonwealth restricts this adaptability.

The system-wide impact of collective bargaining would reduce the competitive offerings of Virginia’s higher education institutions and force more Virginia students out of state.
